HONORS DIMENSION FORM
This form is to be used to submit a proposal for an Honors Dimension in upper division courses at Georgia State University. You must consult with the faculty member who will teach this course before filling out the form so that the two of you can decide what extra work will be done to merit credit as an Honors course, to define the topic you wish to pursue as part of the dimension, to decide on out-of-class meeting times with the faculty member, and to decide how your final grade will be determined. When these matters have been agreed upon, you should complete this form and then secure the signature of the faculty member.
Honors instructors must be full time Georgia State faculty members. Part Time or Visiting Lecturers are not permitted to teach Honors courses/honors dimensions.
Please note the following dates for the appropriate deadlines*:
- Spring Semester—Dec 1st
- Summer Semester—April 1st
- Fall Semester—July 1st
*If the deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline is the following Monday.
Also, please note that those proposals with a high degree of specificity are the ones that tend to be approved. Your response to section B, therefore, should reflect that (a) there is enough material in the field to be studied, and (b) that you have done enough research to enable you to know what specifically you want to read and study during the semester. “I want to study the issue of human rights” is unacceptable as an answer to section B, for example, because it is too broad, and a proposal to read only a single article in an area is unacceptable because it is too narrow. Ordinarily Honors requires at least one meeting every two weeks between you and your professor outside of the regular class, and that the Dimension grade constitutes between 20 and 40 percent of the final grade. You may want to confer with the Honors College Associate Dean or Honors Academic Advisor before submitting this proposal if you have any questions.
