Dr. Marise Parent never imagined a career in neuroscience. During her own undergraduate years, she was determined to become a clinical psychologist. After begrudgingly enrolling in two neuroscience courses to fulfill her requirements, she stepped into an entirely life-changing experience. From here, she redirected her focus to the brain and never looked back.
Now, Dr. Parent is one of the most talented and dedicated professors at Georgia State. She leads a team of highly skilled undergraduate researchers who have successfully presented their research at several conferences nationwide. Her program has received support and funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Health, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and many more.
Over the past ten years, Dr. Parent has hosted 35 undergraduates in her lab. Her mentorship has provided a strong research experience for these students and she has brought limitless innovative thinking to Georgia State. It’s for this reason among many others that she will be awarded the GSURC Faculty Award for Undergraduate Research. The Honors College and Georgia State University as a whole are grateful for her leadership and dedication.
Come hear Dr. Parent give the keynote address at GSURC 2014 on Thursday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. in the Georgia State University Student Center Speaker’s Auditorium.
